First I went to the Bethsoft website and downloaded the newest update, when attempting to install the update (version 1.7) it gives me the following message: the ordinal 5360 could not be located in the dynamic link library xlive.dll. The update did not install.
I then proceeded to install the Games for Windows Live client to resolve this problem and attempted to install the update again, same response. The update did not install. The game still crashes after a minute (give or take a few)
Visited the Nexus forums, downloaded and installed FOMM (Fallout Mod Manager) and used the; use fake xlive.dll setting. The update did not install. The game still crashes after a minute (give or take a few)
Thus i have tried everything in the forums that i could find in the normal way.
I hope this gives a more complete overview of my question.
(p.s. apparently Win 7 and the Nvidia GeForce 450GTS does not see eye to eye, personally i did not have problems yet)

'(p.s. apparently Win 7 and the Nvidia GeForce 450GTS does not see eye to eye, personally i did not have problems yet)'.
I don' think there would be any genuine issues between the GTS450, or any other Nvidia or ATI card and Win7. Mostly, drivers get installed incorrectly or the install is corrupt, or the user pushes the card too hard resulting in crashes.
'Thus i have tried everything in the forums that i could find in the normal way.'
Yes, that's good, but I was hoping for a list so I could avoid suggesting thing you have done, or missing something you may not have tried.
Is the version of GFWL in the link below the one you installed ? When you uninstalled GFWL did you re-boot before installing the new version ?
Download: Games for Windows Software Setup 3.5 - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details
I'd guess the GFWL client has to be sorted out before trying the 1.7 patch again.
-Do you disable your Anti-Virus when installing ?
-Do you have mods installed that could be conflicting with the patch ?
-Have you tried running the installer using the 'run as...administrator' option in
Compatibility settings (even if logged on as administrator) ?
-Have you tried looking for conflicts, or installing from Clean Boot ?
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
-It may help to remove the fake xlive.dll, at least while installing the GFWL client and patching the game. I had that in with the first install of the game, but have not bothered using it with the second install.
So, is the game is installing, and running before the 1.7 patch ?
It's been a while since I reinstalled F03 but I think I stopped patching at 1.5 ( I only
have the 1.4 and 1.5 patch installers in my files).
I play the game off line to avoids GFWL and doing further updates, but
when I had to reinstall GFWL a while back I may have let GFWL install the final patch, (which is no benefit as don't have Mothership Zeta/Broken Steel expansions pack) just to keep it happy.
'The game runs fine for a few minutes without me having it run in compatibility mode then stops'
Have you tried installing the game using Vista sp1 (this is one of only a few games
that I've used compatibility mode with) ? I believe the best chance for compatibility mode to work is to install with the settings made on the setup.exe on the install disk.
